Drought (Agriculture)

A prolonged period of dryness that can cause damage to plants.


Drought (Climatology)

A period of abnormally dry weather sufficiently prolonged for the lack of water to cause a serious shortages of water for agriculture and other needs in the affected area


Drought (Fish)

Generally, the term is applied to periods of less than average or normal precipitation over a certain period of time sufficiently prolonged to cause a serious hydrological imbalance resulting in biological losses (impact flora and fauna ecosystems) and/or economic losses (affecting man). In a less precise sense, it can also signify nature's failure to fulfill the water wants and needs of man.

Drought (Oceanography)

An abnormally long period of insufficient rainfall. Can cause the failure of crops, reduction in natural vegetation and depletion of water supplies.


Drought (Physical Geography)

Climatic condition where water loss due to evapotranspiration is greater than water inputs through precipitation.


Drought (Weather)

Abnormal dry weather for a specific area that is sufficiently prolonged for the lack of water to cause serious hydrological imbalance.
