Earmarking

For Earmarking we have terms and definitions in 3 topics. The topics are Advocacy, Campaign Finance and Fundraising.

Earmarking (Advocacy)

A grant is earmarked if the grantee is required to use it for a specific purpose or recipient or if the grantor has the right to impose such a requirement.

Earmarking (Campaign Finance)

Occurs when a contributor writes a check to, for example, the Democratic National Committee in response to a solicitation and designates through a notation on the check the name of a candidate for whom the contribution is intended. In this case, the DNC acts as a "conduit" and must identity the contribution and the contributor in federal disclosure reports. See also "Conduit."

Earmarking (Fundraising)

A grant is earmarked if the grantee is required to use it for a specific purpose or recipient or if the grantor has the right to impose such a requirement.
