Edema (Cardiovascular)

The accumulation of extra fluid in tissues. The tissue looks puffy and if pressed with a finger will hold the indentation after the finger is removed. In CHF when the body starts to retain water to raise the blood pressure, edema can often result. Pulmonary edema (excessive fluid in the lung tissue) can also result.

Edema (Dairy Production)

Excessive accumulation of fluid in a tissue.

Edema (Day Spa)

An excessive accumulation of serous fluid in tissue spaces or a body cavity.

Edema (Mesothelioma)

An abnormal accumulation of serous fluid in connective tissue, or in a serous cavity (peritoneal or pleural), causing swelling, distention, and compression. It is usually associated with cardiac insufficiency or with kidney malfunction.

Edema (Microbiology)

Excessive accumulation of fluid in tissue spaces.

Edema (Multiple Sclerosis)

Condition where body tissues contain an excessive amount of fluid.

Edema (Naturopathic)

A localized or systemic condition in which the body tissues contain an excessive amount of fluid. Systemic edema can be as mild as premenstrual water retention (I mean mild by comparison) or involve loss of blood proteins or kidney and heart failures. Local edema is the result of extensive or extended inflammation, with blood protein leakage and the loss of interstitial colloid.

Edema (Nursing Home Abuse)

Excessive accumulation of water in the tissues.

Edema (Nutrition)

Retention of fluid in the tissues that results in swelling. Excessive accumulation of tissue fluid.

Edema (Pathology)

Build-up of fluid in the tissues, causing swelling.
