Familial Hdl Deficiency (Science) 
High-density lipoprotein (HDL) protects against atherosclerosis by a reverse cholesterol transport that collects cholesterol from peripheral cells, including those in the arterial wall, for delivery to the liver and sterol-metabolizing organs. Familial HDL deficiency patients have low HDL levels and thus prone to atherosclerosis. Familial HDL deficiency is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion.
