Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG)

Fasting Plasma Glucose (Fpg) (Diabetes)

A method for finding out how much sugar (glucose) is in the blood. The test can show if a person has diabetes. A blood sample is taken in a lab or doctor's office. The test is usually done in the morning, after not eating for eight hours. The normal, nondiabetic range for fasting plasma glucose is less than 100 mg/dl (6.1 mmol/L). If the level is 126 mg/dl (7 mmol/L) or higher, it usually means the person has diabetes.
