Fibrillation

For Fibrillation we have terms and definitions in 7 topics. The topics are Cardiovascular, Carpet, Health, Medical, Paper, Science and Textiles.

Fibrillation (Cardiovascular)

A nonsynchronous contraction of muscle tissue, with individual cells firing at their own rate. Fibrillation can be isolated to the atria or the ventricles. Ventricle fibrillation is not compatible with life. A heart in fibrillation has been described as looking and feeling like a "bag of worms".

Fibrillation (Carpet)

The process of forming nonspun fibers by completely or partially slitting sheets of extruded polypropylene, sometimes followed by twisting into yarns. Fibrillation is employed in the formation of woven polypropylene backing yarns and to make pile yarns for grass carpet.

Fibrillation (Health)

Uncontrolled rapid contraction of the fibers in the heart that occurs in the atrial, or upper, chambers (atrial fibrillation) and in the ventricular, or lower, chambers (ventricular fibrillation)

Fibrillation (Medical)

Rapid, inefficient contraction of muscle fibers of the heart caused by disruption of nerve impulses

Fibrillation (Paper)

Act of loosening the fibrillae during the mechanical process of beating the fibers in preparation for papermaking.

Fibrillation (Science)

A condition in which the heart beats in a random pattern

Fibrillation (Textiles)

The longitudinal splitting of a fibre or filament to give either micro-fine surface hairs or a complete breakdown into sub-micron fibres. In fabrics for apparel, fibrillation can be used to create a variety of surface textures and attractive aesthetics. In hydroentangled nonwoven fabrics, the fibrils make entanglement easier and can give added strength to the fabric.
