Flexible Sigmoidoscopy (Colon Cancer)

The American Cancer Society recommends that this procedure be performed every 5 years after age 50. In this procedure, a sigmoidoscope, a slender, flexible tube that has the ability to view about half of the colon, is used to detect a tumor or polyp. If a polyp or tumor is detected with this test, the patient must be referred for a full colonoscopy.


Flexible Sigmoidoscopy (Colorectal and Pelvic Floor Diso)

A thin lighted tube called a sigmoidoscope is utilized to look inside the rectum and lower colon for polyps, tumors or other abnormalities. Only the lower 1/4 to 1/3 of the colon is visualized.


Flexible Sigmoidoscopy (Female Health Concerns)

Procedure using a lighted scope to examine the sigmoid colon (left side) and rectum; Ability to see 40-50% of the colon.


Flexible Sigmoidoscopy (Health)

Insertion of a small-sized tube into the rectum to visualize the rectum and a portion of the colon
