Floor (Accounting)

Term used when discussing INVENTORIES. Inventory cannot be valued lower than the "floor" which is the net realizable value of the inventory less an allowance for a normal profit margin.

Floor (Basketball)

1) The playing area, bounded by the baselines and sidelines. 2) The surface of the court.

A lower limit on an interest rate, price, or the value of an asset.

Floor (Campaign Finance)

A minimum or set amount of public financing or other public resources (e.g., free media or postage) available to all eligible candidates.


Floor (Derivatives)

A strip of Floorlets (q.v.). Cf. Cap.


Floor (Finance)

The area of a stock exchange where active trading occurs. Also the price at which a stop order is activated (when the price drops low enough to activate such an order).

Floor (Legislative Assembly)

The area within the bar in both the House and Senate Chambers.


Floor (Teacher Evaluation)

The lowest limit of performance that can be assessed or measured by an instrument or process. Individuals who perform near to or below this lower limit are said to have reached the floor, and the assessment may not be providing a valid estimate of their performance levels. Such individuals should be given a less difficult assessment of the same attribute if it is necessary to differentiate between lower levels of performance. See Ceiling, Functional-Level Testing.
