Focal point

Focal Point (Fine Art)

In two-dimensional images, the center of interest visually and/or subject-wise; tends to be used more in traditional, representational art than in modern and contemporary art, where the picture surface tends to have more of an overall importance, rather than one important area.

Focal Point (Interior Design)

Specific visual elements such as a spectacular view, home entertainment system, fireplace, art, sculpture or furniture piece, which becomes the main focus of the room or vignette


Focal Point (Photography)

The point on the optical axis where light rays form a sharp image of a subject. An ideal lens would allow light rays to diverge from a subject parallel to the optical axis and converge to a point when they pass through the lens.


Focal Point (Robotics)

The point at which light rays converge together, or focus.

The place on a design/layout/image to which the eye is naturally drawn; generally it is desirable for a main photograph to be the focal point of a scrapbook page
