Game (Badminton)

The part of a set completed when one player or side has scored enough points to win a single contest.


Game (Billiards)

The course of play that starts when the referee has finished racking the balls, and ends at the conclusion of a legal shot which pockets the last required ball. In 14.1 continuous, a game lasts several racks.


Game (Canine)

Hunted wild birds or animals.

Game (Dream)

To dream of game, either shooting or killing or by other means, denotes fortunate undertakings; but selfish motions; if you fail to take game on a hunt, it denotes bad management and loss.

Game (Field Hockey)

A field hockey is made up of two halves, each 35 minutes in major contests, with a half-time intermission of 5 to 10 minutes. See also overtime.


Game (Ice Hockey)

A hockey game is made up of three periods of 20 minutes each. There are various methods of dealing with a tie after the regulation game has ended, depending the level of play and the importance of the game in question. See overtime; penalty shootout.


Game (International Economics)

A theoretical construct in game theory in which players select actions and the payoffs depend on the actions of all players.


Game (Sports Collectibles)

A uniform, cap, helmet or piece of equipment manufactured and designed for use in a college or professional game or sporting event. A "game" bat was ordered by the player to be used but is not "game-used" until it actually makes its way into an actual game.


Game (Table Tennis)

A table tennis game ends when one player has scored at least 11 or 21 points and at least 2 more than the opposing player. International rules now call for an 11-point game, but the 21-point game is still often used in Hardbat and informal play. See Deuce.


Game (Tennis)

A contest in which one player or side serves throughout. The first contestant to take four points wins the game, but the margin of victory must be at least two points. Scoring follows the sequence, Fifteen-Thirty-Forty-Game. If both players or sides reach forty, it's called deuce. See also advantage; deuce; set; match.

Game (Water Polo)

A water polo game consists of four periods of 7 minutes each, with a 2-minute interval between periods. If the score is tied after the fourth period, there are two overtime periods of three minutes each, with a 1-minute interval. If the score is still tied, a penalty shootout is used to determine the outcome.
