Ball track or indentation in lane. Also applied to bowler who is performing well and has his approach and armswing almost mechanically perfect.

Groove (Car Racing)

The path (or "racing line") around a race track that the majority of the cars favor. The Groove is generally the path that results in the best lap times for most cars and is where most of the traffic on the race track is. You can often tell where the Groove is on a track by heavy concentration of tire marks on the track.


Groove (Entertainment Industry)

Rhythm or tempo that helps create the "feel" of the song.


Groove (Golf)

A description of a swing that consistently follows the same path, time after time. (In his post-round interview, Curtis Strange said his swing was in the groove all day, resulting in a 65.)

A good habit or style. "I'm getting into the groove of doing gigs every week."

Groove (Landforms)

An elongate depression carved out of bedrock as numerous rock particles embedded in the base of a glacier scour away at the underlying bedrock as the ice flows across the landscape.


Groove (NASCAR Racing)

The fastest "lane" of the track. it's the area where the track and the cars tires cooperate. Depending on race track conditions, there may be more than one groove on a race track.


Groove (Remote Control Cars)

Also known as "the racing line", this is the fast way around the track. The quickest way to get around the track is not always a straight line from corner to corner. This term is usually most used in oval racing.
Grooving - no, not dancing! This is a term used to describe the way some tires have a tendency to develop a groove on the inner edge of the tread as they wear. This is less likely to happen to belted tires or tires with firm inserts. Grooving is also a condition that occurs when you have too much negative camber in your car.


Groove (SCRA Sprint Car Racing)

The line through a corner which drivers have found to be the fastest.


Groove (Tires)


The channel between ribs in the tread of a tire.
