Histone Deacetylase Inhibitors (Hdac Inhibitors) (Huntingtons Disease)

Histone deacetylase inhibitors block the activity of histone deacetylases (HDACs). This leads to an increase in the overall level of transcriptional activity. This is thought to be therapeutic in a patient with HD because HDAC inhibitors help to combat the effects of HD by allowing essential genes to be transcribed, thus decreasing the rate of nerve cell death.
