Inhibitor (Adhesives and Sealants)

A substance that slows down a chemical reaction to prolong storage or working life.

Inhibitor (Boiler)

A substance which selectively retards a chemical action. An example in boiler work is the use of an inhibitor, when using acid to remove scale, to prevent the acid from attacking the boiler metal.

Inhibitor (Car Care)

Any substance that slows or prevents such chemical reactions as corrosion or oxidation.

Inhibitor (Carpet)

A chemical that is added to another substance to slow, restrain, or prevent an unwanted chemcial change or growth from occuring.

Inhibitor (Corrosion)

A chemical substance or combination of substances that, when present in the environment, prevents or reduces corrosion without significant reaction with the components of the environment

Inhibitor (HIV and AIDs)

As it pertains to drug design, a drug that slows or blocks physiologic, chemical, or enzymatic action.

Inhibitor (Metal)

A substance which retards some specific chemical reaction. Pickling inhibitors retard the sissolution of metal without hindering the removal of scale from steel.

Inhibitor (Natural Gas)

A chemical agent which slows or reduces chemical action. Inhibitors are used principally in liquid coolants to reduce corrosion of metal parts of the system and in well drilling fluids to reduce corrosion of metals in piping of equipment used in well drilling operations.
