Intensity (Bodybuilding)

Intensity has two definitions in the weight-training world. (1) Relative term that indicates the level of effort exerted during the performance of an exercise. (2) In the strength training circles, intensity refers to the amount of weight being used on a specific exercise.

Intensity (Bodybuilding Lingo)

It can mean that the pace you keep while you train is higher than normal, as in moving quickly and taking a shorter rest between sets. It also can mean that the weight you use during those sessions is relatively heavy for you. It can also mean that the workload within a given time period, combined with the weight and pace is increased.

Intensity (Carpet)

1. The amount of energy per unit. 2. The brilliance of a color. 3. The brightness of light. 4. The perceived magnitude of a stimulus.

Intensity (Earthquake)

A measure of severity of shaking at a particular site. It is usually estimated from descriptions of damage to buildings and terrain. The intensity is often greatest near the earthquake epicenter. Today, the Modified Mercalli Scale is commonly used to rank the intensity from I to XII according to the kind and amount of damage produced. Before 1931 earthquake intensities were often reported using the Rossi-Forel scale. (Noson, et.al., 1988)
A measure of the effects of an earthquake at a particular place on humans, structures and (or) the land itself. The intensity at a point depends not only upon the strength of the earthquake (magnitude) but also upon the distance from the earthquake to the opint and the local geology at that point. This method adjusts either the amount of energy consumed or expenditures spent, for the effects of various building characteristics, such as size of the building, number of workers, or number of operating hours, to facilitate comparisons of energy across time, fuels, and buildings.

Degree of resistance, energy or difficulty as related to a workout.

Brightness of color.

The physiological stress on the body during exercise. Your level of intensity can be readily determined by measuring your pulse rate (heart rate) immediately following an exercise bout.
