Ketosis

Ketosis (Dairy Production)

A condition characterized by a lack of appetite, especially for concentrates and an abnormally high concentration of ketone bodies (e.g., acetone, hydroxy-butyrate) in the blood. Ketosis or acetonemia occurs when the cow mobilizes large amounts of body reserves in early lactation.


Ketosis (Diabetes)

A condition of having ketone bodies build up in body tissues and fluids. The signs of ketosis are nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. Ketosis can lead to ketoacidosis.

Ketosis (Fitness)

Ketosis is the result of insufficient carbohydrate intake. When in a state of ketosis, your feelings of hunger will be reduced and you may become dehydrated. If you test positive for ketosis by your doctor of pharmacist, you should increase your carbohydrate intake to recover.
