LIFO (Accounting)

(last-infirst-out)is an inventory cost flow whereby the last goods purchased are assumed to be the first goods sold so that the ending inventory consists of the first goods purchased.

LIFO (Cellular Networking)

Last in, first out. A queuing methodology similar to stacking dishes and using the dish on the top of the stack. Compare with FIFO

LIFO (Frauds and Scams)

A method used to determine the cost of a good sold. In making this evaluation, the method assumes that company's newest inventory (last in) is sold first (first out). When prices are rising, a company using the LIFO method will have lower gross profits and taxable income because the cost of goods sold will be higher (the newest inventory was costlier to produce).


LIFO (Natural Gas)

Last-in, first out method of inventory valuation in which the earliest acquired inventory is assumed to be still on hand; the most recently acquired is assumed to be sold first.


LIFO (Securities)

Last-in, First-out: A method of accounting for which shares or inventory items are being sold from a pool of similar shares or items. Assumes that when a sale is made, the items purchased last in a group are sold first.


LIFO (Supply Chain)

Lift on, Lift off (LO/LO): A method by which cargo is loaded onto and unloaded from an ocean vessel, which in this case is with a crane.
Lighter: A barge-type vessel used to carry cargo between shore and cargo ship. While the terms barge and lighter are used interchangeably, a barge usually refers to a vessel used for a long haul, while a lighter is used for a short haul.
Lighterage: The cost of loading or unloading a vessel by means of barges.
Line Functions: The decision-making areas companies associate with daily operations. Logistics line functions include traffic management, inventory control, order processing, warehousing, and packaging.
Line-Haul Shipment: A shipment that moves between cities and over distances more than 100 to 150 miles in length.
Line Item: A specific and unique identifier assigned to a product by the responsible enterprise.
Liner Service: International water carriers that ply fixed routes on published schedules.
Link: The transportation method a company uses to connect nodes (plants, warehouses) in a logistics system.
