Modern lacquer is a cellulose-based material which possesses many qualities not found in traditional varnish or shellac finishes, such as the resistance to heat , moisture, and acids. It can be rubbed to a clear satiny finish which emphasizes the beauty of the wood, or can be tinted to any shade and used like paint.
