MP3 (Anti Piracy)

MPEG Audio Layer-3, or MP3, is the compression technology commonly used to make digital audio computer files relatively small while maintaining high audio quality. It is one of many formats used for uploading and downloading on the Internet.

MP3 (Car Stereo)

MP3 encoding compresses musical data, enabling users to store many hours of music as computer files. A growing number of in-dash CD receivers have the ability to decode and play recordable CDs (CD-Rs and/or CD-RWs) loaded with MP3 files. Also, portable MP3 players can be used to play these files through a car receiver's auxilary inputs.

MP3 (Computer Technology)

Popular compression tecnique for audio where file size is reduced by compression and remoing redundant - not noticable - information. Short for MPEG (Moving Pictures Expert Group) audio layer III.

MP3 (DVD)

MPEG-1 Layer III audio. A perceptual audio coding algorithm. Not supported in DVD-Video or DVD-Audio formats.

MP3 (DVD and CD)

MPEG-1 Layer III audio. A perceptual audio coding algorithm. Not supported in DVD-Video or DVD-Audio formats.

MP3 (E-Learning)

A format for music file compression that enables users to download music over the Internet.

MP3 (Home Theater)

MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3. Compression scheme used to transfer audio files via the Internet and store in portable players and digital audio servers.

MP3 (Music Industry)

A popular digital audio file format, designed to greatly reduce the amount of data required to represent audio.

MP3 (Podcast)

MP3 is the digital format that we use for the Podcasts. It is probably the most successful digital music format on the internet.

MP3 (Technology)

[abbreviation for "MPEG Layer-3"] The audio extension for the MPEG digital video standard. It has a surprisingly efficient compression rate which makes it able to deliver near CD quality audio over modem connections. MP3 is very controversial because it has led to rampant piracy of commercial audio over the Internet. The record companies say that it is this piracy which has caused them to lobby so hard against it. Supporters of the technology say that the record industry is just trying to stall MP3 development while they develop their own standard. The truth is probably somewhere in-between. See also ripping.

MP3 (Telepresence)

Abbreviation of "MPEG Audio Layer 3", a method of audio compression using perceptual coding techniques. This allows high compression rates at high quality through use of knowledge of the audio properties of the human ear. Commonly used at bandwidths of between 8kbps (telephone quality) and 128kbps (CD quality).
