Magnetic Therapy

For Magnetic Therapy we have terms and definitions in 4 topics. The topics are Alternative Health, Alternative Medicine, Holistic and Holistic Health.

Magnetic Therapy (Alternative Health)

Practitioners of this therapy use negative magnetic fields which have a beneficial effect on health. By placing magnets near or on an injury site, a force field is created that encourages muscle relaxation and increased blood flow, while reducing inflammation. Devices range from small, simple magnets to large machines capable of generating high magnitudes of field strength.

Magnetic Therapy (Holistic Health)

Magnetic therapy is also referred to as biomagnetic therapy, magnet therapy and electromagnetic therapy. They all use magnetic fields to help alleviate and prevent disease. The theory behind the use of this therapy is that the human body generates electromagnetic fields naturally. (That is why Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI works.) The positive and negative poles of energy in the magnet affect the body, although it is still not proven how or why. It is believed that magnets may realign the body’s electromagnetic field to improve circulation and cellular oxygenation. The negative or north poles have a calming effect and normalize metabolic function and the positive or south poles have a stress effect and interfere with metabolic function. The pineal gland can be affected by an electromagnetic field. Magnetic therapy has been known to help heal non-healing wounds, treat gout, and alleviate chronic pain and migraine headaches. There is little scientific proof of its effectiveness. Most of the documentation is based on anecdotal experiences. Caution: Avoid any use of magnets if you have a pacemaker, as it can cause it to malfunction.
