A term used to imply embracing the bill, resolution and other matters on which the Senate takes action.

Measure (Business Intelligence)

In a cube, a set of values that are based on a column in the cube's fact table and are usually numeric. Measures are the central values that are aggregated and analysed.


Measure (Classical Music)

The unit of measure where the beats on the lines of the staff are divided up into two, three, four beats to a measure.


Measure (Congressional)

Term embracing bill, resolution and other matters on which the Senate takes action


Measure (Derivatives)

A function that maps a set into the positive portion of the real line.
Examples:
1. Length is a measure for subsets of the real line. Add the lengths of subsets of contiguous points in a set to get a positive real number.
2. Area is a measure for sets in the Cartesian plane. Take any rectangular set of points and compute its area by multiplying length by width to get a non negative real number.
3. Probability measure (q.v.).


Measure (Fencing)

The distance between the fencers.

Measure (Graphic Design)

(noun) in typography, the length of a line, even if the line is not filled with characters (such as a centered or partial line), designated in picas. When the text is set in columns, the line length is called columnmeasure.


Measure (Legislative Assembly)

A written document used by the Legislative Assembly to propose a law or to express itself as a body. A measure may be a bill, a memorial, or a resolution.


Measure (Newspaper Design)

The width of a headline or column of text.


Measure (Poetry)

Poetic rhythm or cadence as determined by the syllables in a line of poetry with respect to quantity and accent; also, meter; also, a metrical foot.
Sidelight: While the two terms are usually used synonymously, meter suggests a predictable regularity, so measure is more aptly used in reference to the irregular rhythm of free verse.

Measure (Tap Dance)

The group of beats made by the regular recurrence of primary, or heavy accents, the position of which is marked on the staff by bars just before them. Hence, the notes or rests between two adjacent bars; also is referred to as a Bar of music. In 4/4 time, a measure contains 4 basic beats.


Measure (William Shakespeare)

Distance of a fencer from his opponent; limit; moderation; metre; dance; to judge; to tread.
