Meditation (Holistic Health)

Meditation is an ancient practice of relaxing and focusing the attention in the present moment. It has been known to help people become more relaxed and balanced, heal old traumas, confront death, “finish old business”, learn to forgive and to enhance self-esteem. It can also help stimulate creatividy, improve decision-making, and improve relationships with oneself and others. There are many different methods of meditation, including mandala, mantra, mudra, and breath. Mandala meditation involves focusing the eyes upon a sacred symbol. Mantra meditation uses a repetitive sound or word to help focus the mind and repattern brain waves. A mudra is a hand position that triggers pressure points on the hands that correspond to certain parts of the body or brain. One of the simplest and most commonly taught meditation techniques, especially in stress reduction classes, is to focus on the sensations of one’s breathing. As their thoughts wander, practitioners just notice them and return their focus to their breathing. Another method lets these random thoughts flow unobstructed while the practitioner does not to focus on any of them, but simply observes their passing without judgment.
