For Microfilm we have terms and definitions in 4 topics. The topics are Ancestors, Genealogy, Government Documents and Library.

Microfilm (Ancestors)

A widely used means of preserving records of genealogical value, microfilm is a very durable media with an estimated lifespan of more than 500 years when stored in the proper environment. Repositories such as the National Archives and the Family History Library make many rolls of microfilmed information available to researchers for viewing.

Microfilm (Genealogy)

Reproduction of documents on film at reduced size.

Microfilm (Government Documents)

1. A format; photographically reduced images of printed pages on 35mm film. This format also provides backup for periodicals with missing pages. Older issues of newspapers are often microfilmed because newsprint deteriorates so rapidly. Historical census data is also found in microfilm format.
UIUC Library Glossary

Microfilm (Library)

A type of microform in which photographically reduced images of printed pages are reproduced on 35mm film and read using a microfilm reader. Often used to preserve and store newspapers.
