Moraine (Anthromorphemics)

A glacial deposit (till) with a distinctive topographic expression. "Terminal moraines" mark episodes of stability or re-advance in a Period of overall glacial retreat. Moraines appear as hill or ridges marking original glacial limits.

Moraine (Geography)

The rocks and soil carried and deposited by a glacier. An "end moraine," either a ridge or low hill running perpendicular to the direction of ice movement, forms at the end of a glacier when the ice is melting.

An accumulation of earth, stones, etc., deposited by a glacier, usually in the form of a mound, ridge or other prominence on the terrain.

Moraine (Landforms)

An accumulation of unconsolidated material deposited by glaciers. These accumulations tend to be unsorted; that is, we find many different sized particles deposited in moraines, ranging from fine silt to large boulders. The sediment and rock material in moraines also tend to have angular edges. There are many different types of moraines, and depending on the type, the appearance of moraines may vary.


Moraine (Physical Geography)

A hill of glacial till deposited directly by a glacier.


Moraine (Science)

Piles of gravel and rocks left by retreating glaciers.
