Obligor (Canadian Law)

A person who is contractually or legally, committed or obliged, to providing something to another person; the recipient of the benefit being called the obligee. Also known as the "promisor."


Obligor (Child Support)

The person who is obliged to pay child support (also referred to as the non-custodial parent or NCP).


Obligor (Divorce)

The person who owes money or property as the result of a judgment.

A person who has an obligation to pay off a debt.

Obligor (Real Estate)

A promisor; one who incurs a lawful obligation to another (the obligee). The maker of a promissory note is an obligor. In a performance bond, the contractor is the obligor. One who guarantees the performance of the obligation is a surety; also called a guarantor. (See payor)
