Ohm

For Ohm we have terms and definitions in 13 topics. The topics are Batteries, Car Audio, Electric Power, Electrical, Energy, Explosives, Ham Radio, Home Theater, Music Technology, Plumbing, Solar Energy, Technology and Uk Power.

Ohm (Batteries)

A measure of resistance that causes one volt to produce a current of one ampere.

Ohm (Car Audio)

The basic unit of electrical resistance. (e.g., One ohm is defined as the resistance that causes one volt to drop for each amp flowing through the resistance.)

Ohm (Electric Power)

The derived SI unit for electrical resistance or impedance; one ohm equals one volt per ampere.

Ohm (Electrical)

The derived SI unit for electrical resistance or impedance; one ohm equals one volt per am-pere.

Ohm (Energy)

A unit of measure of electrical resistance. One volt can produce a current of one ampere through a resistance of one ohm.

Ohm (Explosives)

Ohm, symbol O, unit of electrical Resistance, defined as the resistance to the flow of a steady electric current offered by a column of mercury 14.4521 grams in mass with a length of 1.06300 m and with an invariant cross-sectional area, when at a temperature of 0°C.

Ohm (Ham Radio)

The fundamental unit of resistance. one Ohm is the resistance offered when a potential of one Volt results in a current of one Ampere.

Ohm (Home Theater)

A measure of how much something resists (impedes) the flow of electricity. Larger numbers mean more resistance.

Ohm (Music Technology)

So as we can see from above, an "Ohm" is a measurement of the resistance in an electrical conductor. Which can be calculated using the R = V / I equation above. Hence, when someone says that their speakers have an "Impedance" of 8 Ohms, the "impedance" is referring to the factor by which the electrical signal is impeded, hence, a 4 Ohm speaker will offer half the resistance to the electrical current flowing through it than an 8 Ohm one. Having said this impedance varies greatly, and impedance ratings are usually just an average. For more on this, impedance.

Ohm (Plumbing)

A unit of electrical resistance

Ohm (Solar Energy)

A measure of the electrical resistance of a material equal to the resistance of a circuit in which the potential difference of 1 volt produces a current of 1 ampere.

Ohm (Technology)

The unit of measure for electrical resistance. A resistance of 1 ohm will pass 1 ampere of current when a voltage of 1 volt is applied.

Ohm (Uk Power)

The unit of measurement of electrical resistance. The resistance of a circuit in which a potential difference of 1 volt produces a current of 1 ampere
