Opt-in

Opt-in (Affiliate Programs)

When you opt-in to a newsletter or mailing list, you subscribe to it, usually by entering your email address into a signup form. A double opt-in is where a confirmation is required to activate the subscription. This is sometimes called “permission marketing”.


Opt-in (Direct Marketing)

E-mails that have been requested by the recipient.


Opt-in (Interactive Marketing)

Refers to an individual giving a company permission to use data collected from or about the individual for a particular reason, such as to market the company's products and services. See permission marketing.


Opt-in (Internet)

A policy for giving permission under which the user explicitly permits the Web site operator to either collect the information, use it in a specified manner and/or share it with others when such use or disclosure to third parties is unrelated to the purpose for which the information was collected. (See also "opt-out")

Opt-in (Marketing)

Means that a person is “opting in” or agreeing to receive information or advertising via e-mail.


Opt-in (Non-Profit Marketing)

Email communication the user has given his/her permission to receive. The opposite of "spam".


Opt-in (Spam)

The process of agreeing to receive email from a business source. Double opt-in refers to a double-check procedure in which a decision to be included on a mailing list is confirmed.
