Optimization (Coal Power)

A technique used by technical analysts to decide on which measures work best in their specific markets. For instance, the 40-day moving average might generate good signals for oil and commodity markets, but not foreign exchange markets. BY using optimization software, traders hope to work out which measures work well for their specific instruments.

Optimization (Search Engine Optimization)

Changes made to a web page to improve the positioning of that page with one or more search engines. A means of helping potential customers or visitors to find a web site. Optimization may involve design/layout changes, new text for the title-tags, meta-tags, alt- attributes, headings, and changes to the first 200-250 words of the main text. A large image map at the top of a page should be moved further down the page. Frames should be avoided (unless navigational links are also provided within the frames).

Optimization (Storage Media)

Defragmentization. Rewriting all the files on the disk so that they are now stored in contiguous clusters. Effect is to lessen the number of seeks required to access a file, thereby increasing performance.

Optimization (Supply Chain)

The process of making something as good or as effective as possible with given resources and constraints.
Order: A type of request for goods or services.

Optimization (Technology)

1. In programming, the process of producing more efficient (smaller or faster) programs through selection and design of data structures, algorithms, and instruction sequences. 2. The process of a compiler or assembler in producing efficient executable code. See also optimizing compiler.
