Organic (Agriculture)

Of plant or animal origin.

Organic (Alternative Health)

Organically grown products (food, cotton, hemp) are grown without artificial fertilizers or pesticides. Instead, organic growers use composted fertilizer and natural pest management to produce healthy crops. Since there are no chemicals involved in the production, these products cause fewer allergic reactions in the consumer. Because composted or natural fertilizer contains more minerals, the food produced organically has more nutrients.

Organic (Alternative Medicine)

Organically grown products (food, cotton, hemp) are grown without artificial fertilizers or pesticides. Instead, organic growers use composted fertilizer and natural pest management to produce healthy crops. Since there are no chemicals involved in the production, these products cause fewer allergic reactions in the consumer. Organic (Aquaculture)

From a living thing or organism; originating in nature rather than being made artificially.

Organic (Art)

Describes curving, natural forms. Contrast to GEOMETRIC.

Organic (Beauty)

Pertaining to carbon-based compounds produced by living plants, animals or by synthetic processes. Referring to substances that are or have been alive, and therefore contain carbon molecules in their chemical structure.

Organic (Car Design)

When surfaces are made to blend together seamlessly. Forms that appear to have grown biologically.

Organic (Chemistry)

Refers to compounds based on carbon.

Organic (Coffee)

Organic is an important descriptive term in the contemporary coffee world. An organically-grown coffee must be certified by an international agency as having been grown without synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. Somewhat lower yields and the considerable cost of the certification process account for the higher prices demanded for many organic coffees.

Organic (Construction)

Compounds consisting of carbon and generally hydrogen, with a restricted number of other elements such as oxygen, nitrogen, sulphur, phosphorous, chlorine, etc., but not containing atoms or molecules, generally known as metal.

Organic (Corrosion)

Being or composed of hydrocarbons or their derivatives, or matter of plant or animal origin. Contrast with inorganic

Organic (Egyptian)

Anything made of part of an animal body or plant.

Organic (Environmental Health)

Generally considered as originating from plants or animals, and made primarily of carbon and hydrogen. Scientists use the term organic to mean those chemical compounds which are based on carbon.

Organic (Enzymatic Therapy)

Any substance derived from a living organism. Any carbon-containing nutrient, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and vitamins.

Organic (Fine Art)

A description of images which are partly or wholly derived from natural forms, such as curvilinear, irregular, indicative of growth, biologically-based, etc.

Organic (Food)

Ganic defines agricultural products that are grown using cultural, biological and mechanical methods prior to the use of synthetic, non-agricultural substances to control pests, improve soil quality an/or enhance processing. e USDA is currently addressing the issue of organic products, and aims to have official rules for what may be considered organic ready for the 1999 spring planting season.
rrently organic defines an agricultural process in which farmers use techniques such as crop rotation, cultivation, mulching, soil enrichment and the "encouragement" of predators and microorganisms which naturally keep pests away. e now widely accepted definition allows farmers to use natural pesticides, but nothing synthetic.

Organic (Food and Health)

Organic defines agricultural products that are grown using cultural, biological and mechanical methods prior to the use of synthetic, non-agricultural substances to control pests, improve soil quality an/or enhance processing. The USDA is currently addressing the issue of organic products, and aims to have official rules for what may be considered organic ready for the 1999 spring planting season.
Currently organic defines an agricultural process in which farmers use techniques such as crop rotation, cultivation, mulching, soil enrichment and the "encouragement" of predators and microorganisms which naturally keep pests away. The now widely accepted definition allows farmers to use natural pesticides, but nothing synthetic.

Organic (Gardening)

A chemical or fertilizer which is obtained from a source which is or has been alive. Also the general term used for a type of gardening using no chemical or synthetic fertilizers or pesticides.

Organic (Health and Beauty)

Pertaining to carbon-based compounds produced by living plants, animals or by synthetic processes. Referring to substances that are or have been alive, and therefore contain carbon molecules in their chemical structure.

Organic (Nature)

Pertaining to, or derived from living organisms.

Organic (Nutrition)

A term used to describe foods that are grown without the use of synthetic chemicals, such as pesticides, herbicides and hormones. Organic farming treats the soil so that the crops are grown naturally with a high content of nutrients. Non-Organic farming treats the crop and not the soil supplying the crop with less nutrients.

Organic (Paint)

Refers to a substance derived from living matter; the molecular structure contains carbon.

Organic (Physical Geography)

(1) Relating to an organism.
(2) Derived from an organism.

Organic (Planetary Science)

Pertaining to carbon-containing compounds. Organic compounds can be formed by both biological and non-biological processes.

Organic (Roofing)

A term designating any chemical compound which contains carbon and hydrogen.

Organic (Sanitation)

Refers to volatile, combustible and sometimes biodegradable chemical compounds containing carbon atoms (carbonaceous) bonded together and with other elements. The principal groups of organic substances found in wastewater are proteins, carbohydrates and fats and oils.

Organic (Science)

A substance in which carbon atoms form the center or "backbone" of its molecules

Organic (Sculptural)

An image that shows a relationship to nature as opposed to man-made images. Any shape that resembles a naturally occurring form or that suggests a natural growing or expanding process.

Organic (Speleological)

Of biological origin. (Strictly includes all carbon compounds, some of which are NOT biological).
Biology - Flora & Fauna.
