Outsourcing (Contracting)

Basic outsourcing is where the client company has an entire department staffed by the employees of a staffing company, from top to bottom. Can be done on or off the client company premises. See also "Vendor on Premises."


Outsourcing (Direct Marketing)

Using a metal or paper plate, ink is first transferred to an offset drum and then passed to the paper.


Outsourcing (Finance)

Purchasing a significant percentage of intermediate components from outside suppliers.

Outsourcing (Health Insurance)

The hiring of external vendors to perform specified functions, such as data and information management activities, for an MCO.


Outsourcing (Help Desk)

Hiring an outside or third-party service to handle support requests within your support center. Outsourcing may include only certain functions within your support center or may allow your call center to operate 24-hours a day.


Outsourcing (International Business)

A situation in which a firm's functions are performed or provided by a person or group from outside the company.


Outsourcing (International Economics)

1. Performance of a production activity that was previously done inside a firm or plant outside that firm or plant.
2. Manufacture of inputs to a production process, or a part of a process, in another location, especially in another country.
3. Another term for fragmentation.


Outsourcing (Non-Profit Leadership)

An arrangement where one company or individual provides services to an organization that would otherwise have been implemented in-house. See also:Out-tasking


Outsourcing (Restaurant)

Paying someone who is not an employed by your restaurant to do a project.


Outsourcing (Technology)

an arrangement in which one company provides services for another company that could also be or usually have been provided in-house
