Ozone (O3)

For Ozone (O3) we have terms and definitions in 5 topics. The topics are Air Quality, Pool and Spa, Sanitation, Satellite Meteorology and Weather.

Ozone (O3) (Air Quality)

A pungent, colorless, toxic gas. Close to the earth's surface it is produced photochemically from hydrocarbons, oxides of nitrogen and sunlight and is a major component of smog. At very high altitudes, it protects the earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation

Ozone (O3) (Pool and Spa)

Typically produced by an Ozonator installed in a pool or spa. Ozone (O3) is a form of oxygen (O2) and is a powerful oxidizing agent. It is used to destroy organic waste and byproducts and help in the control of algae and bacteria. Not a stand-alone sanitizer: needs some supplementing with chlorine, bromine or ionization. Ozone (O3) (Sanitation)

(1) A strong-smelling, pale blue, reactive toxic chemical gas consisting of three oxygen atoms. It is a highly reactive but unstable oxidant, used for disinfection, oxidation, or odor control in wastewater processes as well as water treatment processes. It is a product of the photochemical process involving sun's energy. Ozone exists in the upper atmosphere zone layer as well as at the earth's surface. Ozone at the earth's surface causes numerous adverse health effects and is a major component of smog.

Ozone (O3) (Satellite Meteorology)

A chemically active molecule in the atmosphere.

Ozone (O3) (Weather)

A nearly colorless gas and a form of oxygen (O2). It is composed of an oxygen molecule made up of three oxygen atoms instead of two.
