P-value

For P-value we have terms and definitions in 5 topics. The topics are Cancer, HIV and AIDs, Sanitation, Statistics and Yeast Genome.

P-value (Cancer)

A statistics term. A measure of probability that a difference between groups during an experiment happened by chance. For example, a p-value of .01 (p = .01) means there is a 1 in 100 chance the result occurred by chance. The lower the p-value, the more likely it is that the difference between groups was caused by treatment.

P-value (HIV and AIDs)

See Statistically Significant.

P-value (Sanitation)

The smallest significance level for which the null hypothesis would be rejected, based on the data that was actually observed.

P-value (Statistics)

The ALPHA value arising from a statistical test. Also see : EXACT TEST(2)

P-value (Yeast Genome)

In a BLAST search, a P-value refers to the probability of obtaining, by chance, a pairwise sequence comparison of the observed similarity given the length of the query sequence and size of the database searched. Thus, low P-values indicate sequence similarities of high significance.
