For Packet Switching we have terms and definitions in 3 topics. The topics are Internet, Technology and WAP Hosting.

The method used to move data around on the Internet. In packet switching, all the data coming out of a machine is broken up into chunks, each chunk has the address of where it came from and where it is going. This enables chunks of data from many different sources to co-mingle on the same lines, and be sorted and directed along different routes by special machines along the way. This way many people can use the same lines at the same time.
You might think of several caravans of trucks all using the same road system to carry materials.

A message-delivery technique in which small units of information (packets) are relayed through stations in a computer network along the best route available between the source and the destination. A packet-switching network handles information in small units, breaking long messages into multiple packets before routing. Although each packet may travel along a different path, and the packets composing a message may arrive at different times or out of sequence, the receiving computer reassembles the original message. Packet-switching networks are considered to be fast and efficient. To manage the tasks of routing traffic and assembling/disassembling packets, such a network requires some "intelligence" from the computers and software that control delivery. The Internet is an example of a packet-switching network. Standards for packet switching on networks are documented in the CCITT recommendation X.25.

A core network transmission technique that involves splitting information into "e;packets"e; of data routed independently through the network over different routes to the final destination. Packet switching is attractive for mobile access because the radio spectrum is used only when data is actually transmitted. The alternative is circuit switching. GPRS is a packet-based technology designed for digital mobile networks.
