Panel (Arbitration)

The arbitrator(s) who decide(s) a dispute.


Panel (Art)

Decorative element of various shapes and material (marble, stone, bronze, wood) which has been sculpted, carved or painted with figures or scenes and used on doors, walls or cornices.

Panel (Art History)

The word comes from Italian "palm". It is a symmetrical ornamental motif imitating palm trees or palm leaves. Following Oriental patterns, it is an element of ancient architectural decoration frequently used either on its own or as friezes. It became the most popular basic motif of medieval ornaments. The so-called palmette style was a style following Byzantine examples whose contacts are not yet identified. Rich, lace-like decorations were applied on major parts of buildings, e.g. column-caps, cornices and abutments.


Panel (Comic Book)

A box whitch contains a given scene (also BOX, FRAME).


Panel (Computing and Social Science)

A group of individuals who are interviewed more than once over time in a longitudinal survey .


Panel (Conference Calling)

A group of participants on a call that will access it through the organizer access code so that they are heard (not subject to muting) throughout the call.


Panel (Construction)

A thin flat piece of wood, plywood, or similar material, framed by stiles and rails as in a door (or cabinet door), or fitted into grooves of thicker material with molded edges for decorative wall treatment.


Panel (International Economics)

A three-person committee assembled by the WTO to hear evidence in disputes between members, as part of the WTO dispute settlement mechanism. Panels are also used to settle disputes under NAFTA.


Panel (Law)

In reference to a court, it is a group of judges (usually three judges) among those sitting on an appellate court who hear a particular appeal. An en banc panel is one that is made up of all the judges from that court, as opposed to the regular quorum.

Panel (Legal)

(1) In appellate cases, a group of judges (usually three) assigned to decide the case; (2) In the jury selection process, the group of potential jurors.

Panel (Marketing)

A survey in which the same respondents are interviewed several times over an extended period. Also called longitudinal analysis. Group interviews (focus groups) are sometimes called panels.


Panel (Solar Energy)

See photovoltaic (PV) panel.


Panel (Windows)

Usually refers to the glazed panel or panels in a door frame.

A sheet of plywood, particleboard, or other similar product, usually of standard size, such as 4x8 feet.
