Parameter

For Parameter we have terms and definitions in 9 topics. The topics are Computer Virus, Environment, Finance, Fish, Marketing, Pool and Spa, Sanitation, Statistics and Technology.

Parameter (Computer Virus)

A value that is assigned to a variable. In communications, a parameter is a means of customizing program (software) and hardware operation.

Parameter (Environment)

A variable, measurable property whose value is a determinant of the characteristics of a system; e.g. temperature, pressure, and density are parameters of the atmosphere.

Parameter (Finance)

A model is a combination of variables, such as GDP growth, and coefficients which multiply these variables. The coefficients are often estimated from the data. The coefficients are called parameters.

Parameter (Fish)

"A ""constant"" or numerical description of some property of a population (which may be real or imaginary). Cf. statistic."

Parameter (Marketing)

Numerical summary measure of a population distribution.

Parameter (Pool and Spa)

Limits, ranges or boundary-determining characteristics. The common water analysis parameters include: pH, total alkalinity, chlorine or bromine, calcium hardness, chlorine stabilizer, iron, copper, TDS, etc. The control and adjustment of these various parameters is referred to as water balancing.

Parameter (Sanitation)

A quantity or characteristic which describes physical, chemical or biological conditions, such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, color, count, species composition on condition of aquatic organisms, stream flow, velocity and area of channel cross-section.

Parameter (Statistics)

A characteristic of a population. The goal of statistical analysis is usually to estimate population parameters, using statistics from a sample of the population.

Parameter (Technology)

In programming, a value that is given to a variable, either at the beginning of an operation or before an expression is evaluated by a program. Until the operation is completed, a parameter is effectively treated as a constant value by the program. A parameter can be text, a number, or an argument name assigned to a value that is passed from one routine to another. Parameters are used as a means of customizing program operation. See also argument, pass by address, pass by value, routine.
