Solid particles of soot and other substances that result from combustion.


Particulates (Environment)

1. Fine liquid or solid particles such as dust, smoke, mist, fumes, or smog, found in air or emissions. 2. Very small solids suspended in water; they can vary in size, shape, density and electrical charge and can be gathered together by coagulation and flocculation.


Particulates (Natural Gas)

Separate and minute particles in a gas stream. Also, those appearing in the atmosphere as a result of chimney effluent. See POLLUTION, ATMOSPHERIC.


Particulates (Satellite Meteorology)

Airborne solid and liquid aerosols that, when in high concentrations, seriously affect the lives of people and animals, harm plants, or threaten ecosystems.


Particulates (Science)

Small particles of a substance, especially those suspended in a gas; small liquid droplets or tiny pieces of dust or other solid materials that float in the air
