Peak Flow Meter (Allergy and Asthma)

A device used to measure the fastest speed in which a person can blow air out of the lungs. During an asthma or other respiratory flare up, the large airways in the lungs slowly begin to narrow. This will slow the speed of air leaving the lungs and can be measured by a PFM. This measurement is very important in evaluating how well or how poorly the disease is being controlled.


Peak Flow Meter (Emergency Health Care)

A portable, inexpensive, hand-held device used to measure how air flows from lungs in one "fast blast;" to measure the ability to push air out of the lungs.


Peak Flow Meter (Health)

A peak flow meter is a small instrument used to determine how well or poorly an individual’s lungs are working. After blowing into the peak flow meter, a number is recorded that tells the doctor how fast and how much air a patient can blow out
