Peer Review (Accounting)

Process by which an accounting firm's practice is evaluated for compliance with professional standards. The objective is achieved through the performance of an independent review by one's peers.

Process by which an accounting firm's practice is evaluated for compliance with professional standards. The objective is achieved through the performance of an independent review by one's peers.


Peer Review (Clinical Trials)

Review of a clinical trial by experts chosen by the study sponsor. These experts review the trials for scientific merit, participant safety, and ethical considerations.


Peer Review (Disaster Recovery)

One method of testing a specific component of a plan. Typically, the component is reviewed for accuracy and completeness by personnel (other than the owner or author) with appropriate technical or business knowledge.


Peer Review (Health Care)

The evaluation of quality of total health care provided by medical staff with equivalent training.


Peer Review (Health Insurance)

A system in which the appropriateness of healthcare services delivered by a provider to health plan members is evaluated by a panel of medical professionals.


Peer Review (Health Research)

A system for evaluating research applications that uses reviewers who are the professional equals of the applicant. See also Dual review system.


Peer Review (Insurance)

Evaluation of a physician's performance by other physicians, usually within the same geographic area and medical specialty.


Peer Review (Non-Profit Accountability)

An assessment of a product conducted by a person or persons of similar expertise on the subject.


Peer Review (Research)

A process during which a group of experts examine a document before it is published to determine whether it is worthy of publication. A peer review process—usually arranged so that the reviewers don't know who the author is—helps provide quality filters for journals and other publications. See also refereed publication.

Peer Review (Sanitation)

The independent review of work by other experts and/or professionals within the same academic or professional fields.


Peer Review (Teacher Evaluation)

The evaluation of a teacher by other teachers, usually done to provide feedback to the evaluee for purposes of professional development and improvement, or to provide subject-matter and context-related expertise not possessed by others involved in the evaluation process.
