Permanence

Permanence (Accounting)

is the quality or state of being permanent; primarily judged by durability and useful life. See ORDER OF PERMANENCE.


Permanence (Archival)

Ability of a material to resist chemical deterioration, but not a quantifiable term. Permanent paper usually refers to a durable alkaline paper that is manufactured according to ANSI Standard X39.48-1984 Permanence of Paper for Printed Library Materials. Even so called permanent materials depend for their longevity upon proper storage conditions. See also Chemical Stability.

Permanence (Paper)

In paper terminology permanence refers to the ability of paper to retain, for a given period of time, desirable properties such as color, and folding endurance. Prolonged exposure to light, humidity, and adverse temperatures will affect the permanence of paper.

Permanence (Scrapbooking)

The degree to which paper resists deterioration or change to its properties over time. Permanence must also take into consideration storage and end-use conditions. Even a paper with a 4.0 acid pH will last indefinitely if stored under ideal conditions
