Ph (Anthropology)

The measurement of acidity or alkalinity. A pH of 7 is neutral; less than 7 is acid; greater than 7 is basic or alkaline.

Ph (Archival)

In chemistry, pH is a measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution, which is a measure of acidity or alkalinity. The pH scale runs from 0 to 14, and each number indicates a tenfold increase. Seven is pH neutral; numbers below 7 indicate increasing acidity, with 1 being most acid. Numbers above 7 indicate increasing alkalinity, with 14 being most alkaline. Paper with a pH below 5 is considered highly acidic. Buffered storage materials typically have a pH between 7 and 9. Ph (Beer Brewing)

A measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. Neutral pH is 7.0; values below 7.0 are acidic, while values above 7.0 are alkaline. The scale is logarithmic -- so a pH of 5.0 is not twice as acidic as a pH of 6.0, it is 10 times as acidic.

Ph (Biomediation)

Ph (Chemistry)

Measures the acidity of a solution. It is the negative log of the concentration of the hydrogen ions in a substance.

Ph (Corrosion)

A measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution; The negative logarithm of the hydrogen-ion activity; it denotes the degree of acidity or basicity of a solution. At 25 ºC (77 ºF), 7.0 is the neutral value. Decreasing values below 7.0 indicate increasing acidity; increasing values above 7.0, increasing basicity.

Ph (Cosmetics)

pH is an abbreviation for percentage of hydrogen. In cosmetics, it measures the level of acidity.

Ph (Dairy Production)

A measure of acidity or alkalinity of a solution. Values range from 0 (most acid) to 14 (most basic), with neutrality at pH 7.

Ph (Energy)

A measure of acidity or alkalinity. A pH of 7 represents neutrality. Acid substances have lower pH. Basic substances have higher pH.

Ph (Environment)

An expression of the intensity of the basic or acid condition of a liquid; may range from 0 to 14, where 0 is the most acid and 7 is neutral. Natural waters usually have a pH between 6.5 and 8.5.

Ph (Explosives)

PH, range of numbers expressing the relative acidity or alkalinity of a solution. The pH value is the negative common Logarithm of the hydrogen-ion Concentrationin a solution expressed in Moles per liter of solution. A neutral solution is one that is neither acidic nor alkaline such as pure water has a concentration of 10-7 moles per liter; its pH is thus 7. Acidic solutions have pH values ranging with decreasing acidity from 0 to nearly 7; alkaline or basic solutions have a pH ranging with increasing alkalinity from just beyond 7 to 14. Also Acids and Bases.

Ph (Food Industry)

pH is a scale which measures, acidity / alkalinity and ranges from pH1 for strong acids, such as hydrochloric acid, to pH14 for strong alkalis, such as sodium hydroxide. Water has a pH of 7. Low acid foods have a pH above 4.5 and high acid foods have a pH below 4.5.
See acidity, high acid food and low acid food.

Ph (Food Safety)

Symbol for degree of acidity or alkalinity of a substance, measured on a scale from 0 to 14.0.

Ph (Gardening)

A measure of acidity and alkalinity. Below pH 6.5 is acid, above pH 7.5 is alkaline.

Ph (Health and Beauty)

(pH

Ph (Horse Health)

A measure of the hydrogen ion concentration of a solution, reflective of acidity (pH below 7) or alkalinity (pH above 7), with a pH value of 7 representing neutrality.

Ph (Huntingtons Disease)

A measure of how acidic or basic a solution is. Water has a pH of 7 and is neutral. Solutions with a pH below 7 are acidic, while solutions with a pH above 7 are basic.

Ph (Lawn Care)

The reciprocal of the hydrogen ion concentration of a medium. A value on a scale of 0 to 14 gives a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a medium; pH values of 0 to 6.5 indicate acidic conditions, a pH value of 7.0 is neutral and pH values greater than 7.0 are alkaline.

Ph (Medical)

A measure of the acidic or basic character of a substance

Ph (Nature)

A measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution based on a scale from 1 to 14; numerically equal to seven for a neutral solution.

Ph (Naturopathic)

The potential of hydrogen. A "neutral" pH is expressed as 7.0 (water), with greater being alkaline and lesser being acidic. Expressed logarithmically like the Richter's Scale, 6.9 pH is twice as acidic as 7.0. 9.0 is ten times as alkaline as 8.0, etc., all based on the presumed amount of hydrogen ion (acidity) present. This is a chemical literality, not to be confused with the vitalist and cyto-hologrammic implications of Acid and Alkaline metabolism or foods. A complex protein has a literal pH close to neutral. Run it through your body and it gets broken down into an incredible array of amino acids, ending up as nitrogenous acid waste products. The more rapid the metabolism, the more acids are produced...the ashes of life are acids. The literal pH of the life media, such as blood, lymph and cytoplasm...and most food, is alkaline. This acid/alkaline is a concept only applicable "in vivo"; pH defines acid/alkaline "in vitro".

Ph (Nutrition)

Potential of hydrogen. A scale used to measure the relative acidity or alkalinity of substances. The scale runs from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is considered nuetral; numbers below 7 denote increasing acidity and numbers above 7 denote increasing alkalinity.

Ph (Paper)

In chemistry, pH is a measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution, which is a measure of acidity or alkalinity. The pH scale runs from 0 to 14 and each number indicates a ten fold increase. Seven is pH neutral: numbers below 7 indicate increasing acidity, with 1 being the most acid. Numbers above 7 indicate increased alkalinity with 14 being the most alkaline. Paper with a pH below 5 is considered highly acidic. Buffered papers typically have a pH between 8.5 and 9.5.

Ph (Photography)

A measure of acidity or alkalinity. pH7 is neutral; lower numbers indicate increasing acidity, while higher numbers indicate increasing alkalinity. pH control is an essential aspect of photographic chemistry, and one which is often neglected.

Ph (Physical Geography)

Scale used to measure the alkalinity or acidity of a substance through the determination of the concentration of hydrogen ions in solution. A pH of 7.0 is neutral. Values below 7.0, to a minimum of 0.0, indicate increasing acidity. Values above 7.0, to a maximum of 14.0, indicate increasing alkalinity.

Ph (Pool and Spa)

The pH scale goes from 0 to 14. 0 is the most acidic. 14 is the most alkaline. 7 is neutral. The ideal range for most pools and spas is 7.2-7.8. This is a compromise of several factors: allows for reasonable effectiveness of chlorine or bromine, bather comfort, corrosion and scaling considerations and the solubility of dissolved minerals. pH values less than ideal can lead to corrosion problems. Values higher than ideal can lead to cloudy water and scale formation. pH is an important parameter and must be controlled. Chemicals are available to lower or raise the pH. Control of total alkalinity aids in stabilizing the pH. Click here for some ordering information about pH PockeTesters.
