Phosphorylation

For Phosphorylation we have terms and definitions in 4 topics. The topics are HIV and AIDs, Huntingtons Disease, Microbiology and Prostate Cancer.

Phosphorylation (HIV and AIDs)

The addition of a phosphate group (phosphorus plus four oxygen atoms) to an ORGANIC MOLECULE. Phosphorylation is essential to many cellular processes, and it is one step required to convert NUCLEOSIDE ANALOGS into their active, triphosphate form.

Phosphorylation (Huntingtons Disease)

The process of adding on a phosphate group to a molecule. Often used in cell signaling to turn molecules on or off.

Phosphorylation (Microbiology)

The addition of a phosphate monoester to a macromolecule, catalyzed by a specific kinase enzyme. With respect to proteins, certain amino acid side chains (serine, threonine, tyrosine) are subject to phosphorylation catalyzed by protein kinases; altering the phosphorylation status of a protein may have dramatic effects on its biologic properties, and is a common cellular control mechanism. With respect to DNA, 5' ends must be phosphorylated for ligation.

Phosphorylation (Prostate Cancer)

The addition of phosphate to an organic compound through the action of a phosphorylase or kinase
