An endocrine gland located at the base of the brain, in the small recess of a bone - certain sections of the pituitary each secretes important hormones including growth hormone (GH) and antidiuretic hormone (ADH).

The gland from which a number of hormones are released into the bloodstream. These hormones include growth hormone, ACTH, B-lipocortin (the precursor to B-endorphorin), FSH, LH, and TSH.

Also known as the hypophysis, a gland at the base of the brain with two functionally distinct lobes involved in regulating growth, metabolism, and maturation.

A small oval endocrine gland attached to the base of the brain, and connected to the hypothalamus. The pituitary gland secretes hormones such as follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and oxytocin.

A gland located at the base of the brain which produces hormones that regulate endocrine activity. Pituitary hormones affect the adrenal glands, thyroid, kidneys, and sexual glands.

A small gland in the base the brain behind the bridge of the nose that produces a number of hormones including LH and FSH.

A small, somewhat cherry-shaped double structure attached by a stalk to the base of the brain and constituting the master endocrine gland affecting all hormonal functions in the body.

A very small and very important gland in our bodies. About the size of a pea, it is just below the brain and just behind the top of the nose. When the brain tells it to, the pituitary gland sends growth hormone to our bones and causes us to grow.

The gland from which a number of hormones are released into the bloodstream. These hormones include growth hormone, ACTH, B-lipocortin (the precursor to B-endorphorin), FSH, LH, and TSH.
Priapism
A prolonged erection that will not subside naturally. Priapism is most often associated with penile injection therapy where the erection will can last more than 4 hours. It is also associated with Sickle Cell anemia and may occur after taking Trazodone.

An endocrine gland somewhat behind the eyes and suspended from the front of the brain. The front section, the anterior pituitary, makes and secretes a number of controlling hormones that affect the rate of oxidation; the preference for fats, sugars, or proteins for fuel; the rate of growth and repair in the bones, connective tissue, muscles, and skin; the ebb and flow of steroid hormones from both the gonads and adrenal cortices. It does this through both negative and positive feedback. The hypothalamus controls these functions, secreting its own hormones into a little portal system that feeds into the pituitary, telling the latter what and how much to do. The hypothalamus itself synthesizes the nerve hormones that are stored in the posterior pituitary, which is responsible for squirting them into the blood when the brain directs it to. These neurohormones act quickly, like adrenalin, to constrict blood vessels, limit diuresis in the kidneys, and trigger the complex responses of sexual excitation, milk let-down in nursing, and muscle stimulus in the uterus (birthing, orgasm, and menstrual contractions), prostate, and nipples.

A gland located at the base of the brain that secretes a number of different hormones. Pituitary hormones regulate growth and metabolism by coordinating the actions of other endocrine glands.

A gland at the base of the brain, stimulated by a portion of the brain called the hypothalamus, that secretes hormones that work elsewhere in the body (e.g., ACTH, FSH, LH, TSH, prolactin).
