Porphyrin

Porphyrin (Microbiology) 
A porphin derivative in which the pyrrole beta-carbons are variously substituted. Porphyrin can readily chelate various metals, the metalloporphyrins being components of several important biological pigments, e.g. chlorophylls, cytochromes, heme.
