Profiling (Computer Virus)


The process of scanning a network for live systems to monitor and of associating attack signatures with those particular systems. Also see profiler.


Profiling (Ecommerce)

As defined by the FTC, it is the practice of aggregating information about consumers’ preferences and interests, gathered primarily by tracking their movements online, and using the resulting consumer profiles to create targeted advertising on the Web.


Profiling (Health Care)

An analytic tool that uses epidemiologic methods to compare practice patterns of providers on the dimensions of cost, service use, or quality of care. The provider's pattern of practice is expressed as a rate aggregated over time for defined population of patients.


Profiling (Interactive Marketing)

The practice of tracking information about consumers' interests by monitoring their movements online. This can be done without using any personal information, but simply by analyzing the content, URL’s, and other information about a user’s browsing path/click-stream.


Profiling (Spy)

Stereotyping a group or "type" of person to assess potential dangers, suspects
