Quad (Electric Power)

A measure of energy equal to one trillion Btus; an energy equivalent to approximately 172 million barrels of oil.

Quad (Energy)

One quadrillion (1015 or 1,000,000,000,000,000) British thermal units (Btus). An amount of energy equal to 170 million barrels of oil. Total U.S. consumption of all forms of energy is (in the 1990s) about 83 quads in an average year.

Quad (International Economics)

Refers both to the Quadrilateral Meetings and to the participants in those meetings, the U.S., Canada, EU, and Japan.

Quad (Natural Gas)

An energy quantity of one quadrillion BTUs (1,055 petajoules), which is approximately the energy equivalent contained in one trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

Quad (Oil)

An energy quantity of one quadrillion BTUs (1,055 petajoules), which is approximately the energy equivalent contained in one trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

Quad (Real Time 3D)

A square polygon. Some RT3D engines use quads instead of triangular polygons because it saves NEED DEFINITION, because a square polygon stored as a quad stores only four vertices, whereas a square created with two triangles means transforming six vertices instead of only four. The artist should keep the vertices of the quad coplanar, or rendering weirdness can happen, because the quad is divided into two triangles at render time. The internal edge between the two tris is determined arbitrarily, so it could look like a ridge or a valley.

Quad (Solar Energy)

One quadrillion Btu (1,000,000,000,000,000 Btu).

Quad (Video Surveillance)

Utilizing digital video, this piece of equipment displays signals from four surveillance cameras on one monitor.

Quad (Wire)

A structural unit employed in cables, consisting of four separately insulated conductors twisted together.
