For R-value we have terms and definitions in 7 topics. The topics are Energy, Green Energy, Insulation, Natural Gas, Real Estate, Roofing and Windows.

A unit of thermal resistance used for comparing insulating values of different material. It is basically a measure of the effectiveness of insulation in stopping heat flow. The higher the R-value number, a material, the greater its insulating properties and the slower the heat flow through it. The specific value needed to insulate a home depends on climate, type of heating system and other factors.

Describes the insulating property of materials on a scale of 0 to infinity, with 0 being a perfect conductor of heat. As the number goes up, so does the resistance to heat transfer. R-value per-inch is the measured resistance of heat flow per each inch of material, for example, aluminum has an R-value per-inch of 0.00090125, fiberglass has an R-value per-inch of about 3. Total R-value is the measured resistance to heat flow of a material. An entire wall set-up would have a total R-value based on the materials used.

Measure of resistance to heat flow. Insulation materials have tiny pockets of trapped air. These pockets resist the transfer of heat through material. The ability of insulation to slow the transfer of heat is measured in R-values. The higher the R-value, the better the insulation material's ability to resist the flow of heat through it.

A measure of thermal resistance of a material, equal to the reciprocal of the U-Value. The R-Value is expressed in terms of degrees Fahrenheit times hours, times square feet per Btu.

A term used to describe the effectiveness of various kinds of insulation to indicate their resistance to heat flow. If more than one layer of insulation is used, the R-value of the individual layers are added together to indicate a total R-value.

The thermal resistance of a glazing system. The R-value is the reciprocal of the U-value. The higher the R value, the less heat is transmitted throughout the glazing material.

The measurement of resistance to heat transfer in a material. The higher the R-Value, the greater the insulation value.
