Respiration

For Respiration we have terms and definitions in 12 topics. The topics are Agriculture, Biomediation, Climate, Ear Surgery, Health, Horse Health, Medical, Microbiology, Physical Geography, Pituitary, Respiratory Disorders and Science.

Respiration (Agriculture)

The process where food is oxidized (burned) to release energy.

Respiration (Biomediation)

Any of various energy-yielding oxidative reactions in living matter that typically involve transfer of any substrate (organic or inorganic) to a terminal electron acceptor, usually oxygen.

Respiration (Climate)

A biochemical process by which living organisms take up oxygen from the environment and consume organic matter, releasing both carbon dioxide and heat. In plants, the organic matter in photosynthate produced during daylight hours.

Respiration (Ear Surgery)

Breathing. To inhale and exhale.

Respiration (Health)

Gas exchange from air to the blood and from the blood to the body cells.

Respiration (Horse Health)

Breathing.

Respiration (Medical)

The process by which oxygen is taken in and used by tissues in the body and carbon dioxide is released

Respiration (Microbiology)

An energy-yielding metabolic process in which electrons from an oxidizable substrate are transferred by a series of oxidatin-reduction reactions (i.e., via an electron-transport chain) to an exogenous terminal electron acceptor such as oxygen, nitrate, or fumarate). (Contrast with fermentation).

Respiration (Physical Geography)

Is the typical process where mitochondria of cells of organisms release chemical energy from sugar and other organic molecules through chemical oxidation. This process occurs in both plants and animals. In most organisms, respiration releases the energy required for all metabolic processes. This chemical reaction can be described by the following simple equation:
C6H12O6 + 6O2 >>> 6CO2 + 6H2O + released energy

Respiration (Pituitary)

Breathing. To inhale and exhale.

Respiration (Respiratory Disorders)

Gas exchange from air to the blood and from the blood to the body cells.

Respiration (Science)

Process by which organisms get energy from carbohydrates that react with oxygen. Respiration also releases carbon dioxide to the atmosphere; the taking in of oxygen, its utilization in the tissues, and the giving off of carbon dioxide
