S-VHS (DVD and CD)

Super VHS (Video Home System). An enhancement of the VHS videotape standard using better recording techniques and Y/C signals. The term S-VHS is often used incorrectly to refer to s-video signals and connectors.

S-VHS (Home Theater)

Super VHS. Enhancement to regular VHS that offers improved luminance resolution. (400 lines or so.)

S-VHS (Multimedia)

S-VHS is an enhancement to regular VHS video tape decks. S-VHS provides better resolution and less noise than VHS. S-VHS video tape decks support s-video inputs and outputs, although this is not required. It does, however, improve the quality by not having to separate and then merge the luma and chroma signals.
