The topics are Anthromorphemics, Anthropology, Atmospheric Chemistry, Boiler, Earth Science, Environment, Fish, Food, Geologic, Nature, Oceanography, Paleontology, Physical Geography, Planetary Science, Plumbing, Sanitation, Science, Speleological and Water Science.

Sediment (Anthromorphemics)

Material that was suspended in water and that settles at the bottom of a body of water.

Sediment (Anthropology)

Material that was suspended in water and that settles at the bottom of a body of water.

Sediment (Atmospheric Chemistry)

Particles carried by water or air that are deposited in other areas or elevation are called sediment. Usually associated with water flow, sediment will accumulate at the mouth of a river or stream as it empties into a larger, slower moving body of water. Sediment deposition is also effected by particle size.[Geological Magazine; v131; p568-70; 1994.] [Ecology; v74; p919-34; 1993.]

Sediment (Boiler)

(1) Matter in water which can be removed from suspension by gravity or mechanical means. (2) A non-combustible solid matter which settles out at bottom of a liquid; a small percentage is present in residual fuel oils. SEGREGATION - The tendency of refuse of varying compositions to deposit selectively in difference parts of the unit.

Sediment (Earth Science)

Rock debris commonly produced by mechanical or chemical weathering processes.

Sediment (Environment)

Topsoil, sand, and minerals washed from the land into water, usually after rain or snow melt.

Sediment (Fish)

The organic material that is transported and deposited by wind and water.

Sediment (Food)

The grainy deposit sometimes found in wine bottles, most often with older wines. Sediment is not a bad sign but in fact may indicate a superior wine. It should be allowed to settle completely before the wine is poured into another container so that when the wine is served none of the sediment will transfer to the glass.

Sediment (Geologic)

Loose, uncemented pieces of rock or minerals.

Sediment (Nature)

Material (such as sand and stones) deposited by water, wind, or a glacier

Sediment (Oceanography)

Waterborne material such as animal and plant debris or suspended sand and silt, which eventually settles down at the bottom of the sea or ocean.

Sediment (Paleontology)

Solid unconsolidated rock and mineral fragments that come from the weathering of rocks and are transported by water, air, or ice and form layers on the Earth's surface. Sediments can also result from chemical precipitation or secretion by organisms.

Sediment (Physical Geography)

Solid material that has been or is being eroded, transported, and deposited. Transport can be due to fluvial, marine, glacial or aeolian agents.

Sediment (Planetary Science)

(see Regolith) Solid rock or mineral fragments transported and deposited by wind, water, gravity, or ice; precipitated by chemical reactions; or secreted by organisms; accumulated as layers in loose, unconsolidated form.

Sediment (Plumbing)

The substance that settles on the bottom of a water tank. Also known as lime.

Sediment (Sanitation)

(1) Solid material settled from suspension in a liquid. (2) Mineral or organic solid material that is being transported or has been moved from its site of origin by air, water or ice and has come to rest on the earth's surface either above or below sea level. (3) Inorganic or organic particles originating from weathering, chemical precipitation or biological activity. (4) Any solid phase settling out of a liquid phase, as for example, deposits in rivers and lakes, sludge in clarifiers.

Sediment (Science)

Any solid material that settles out of a solution

Sediment (Speleological)

Material deposited by water ice or wind or precipitated from water.
Cave - Erosional & Solutional Features.

Sediment (Water Science)

Usually applied to material in suspension in water or recently deposited from suspension. In the plural the word is applied to all kinds of deposits from the waters of streams, lakes, or seas.
