Seismograph

For Seismograph we have terms and definitions in 8 topics. The topics are Earth Science, Earthquake, Explosives, Natural Gas, Nature, Physical Geography, Science and Volcano.

Seismograph (Earth Science)

An instrument that records seismic waves; that is, vibrations of the earth. Used to record and measure earthquakes.

Seismograph (Earthquake)

A sensitive instrument that can detect, amplify, and record ground vibrations too small to be perceived by human beings. (Noson, et.al., 1988)
An instrument that records the motions of the Earth, especially earthquakes. (USGS National Earthquake Information Center, 1999)
A scientific instrument that detects and records vibrations (seismic waves) produced by earthquakes. (Teacher's Packet)

Seismograph (Explosives)

An instrument, useful in monitoring blasting operations, that records ground vibration. Particle velocity, displacement, or acceleration is generally measured and recorded in three mutually perpendicular directions.

Seismograph (Natural Gas)

A device for detecting vibrations in the earth. It is used in prospecting for probable oil or gas bearing structures. In this application, the vibrations are created by discharging explosives in shallow bore holes. The nature and velocity of the vibrations as recorded by the seismograph indicate the general nature of the section of earth through which the vibrations pass.

Seismograph (Nature)

An instrument that detects and records vibrations caused by earthquake shock waves

Seismograph (Physical Geography)

Instrument that measures the energy contained in seismic waves from an earthquake or other type of ground displacement.

Seismograph (Science)

A device designed to detect vibrations from earthquakes or man-made sources.
