Silicone

For Silicone we have terms and definitions in 16 topics. The topics are Adhesives and Sealants, Auto Body, Beauty, Breast Augmentation, Breast Cancer, Breast Reconstruction, Cancer, Cosmetics, Explosives, Health and Beauty, Medical, Paint, Pavement, Remote Control Cars, Shoes and Technology.

Silicone (Adhesives and Sealants)

Any member of a family of polymeric products whose molecular backbone is made up of alternating silicon and oxygen atoms and which has pendant hydrocarbon groups attached to the silicon atoms. Used primarily as a sealant, silicone is known for its ability to withstand large variations in temperature (-100°F to +600°F). Silicone is reliable and is relatively easy to handle.

Silicone (Auto Body)

Ingredient in polish which is the greatest enemy of the spray painter. It prevents good adhesion when spraying.

Silicone (Beauty)

A compound of silicon used in shine-enhancing hair products to seal the cuticle of hair and in many oil-free cosmetics.

Silicone (Breast Augmentation)

A material that is widely used in medical implants, composed primarily of silicon, carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

Silicone (Breast Cancer)

Synthetic material used in breast implants because of its flexibility, resilience and durability.

Silicone (Breast Reconstruction)

A material that is widely used in medical implants, composed primarily of silicon, carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

Silicone (Cancer)

A synthetic gel that is used as an outer coating on breast implants and as the inside filling of some implants.

Silicone (Cosmetics)

A compound of silicon used in shine-enhancing hair products to seal the cuticle of hair and in many oil-free cosmetics.

Silicone (Explosives)

A modern type of plastic.

Silicone (Health and Beauty)

A compound of silicon used in shine-enhancing hair products to seal the cuticle of hair and in many oil-free cosmetics.

Silicone (Medical)

A group of compounds of silicon and oxygen; commonly used as implants in cosmetic surgery because they resist body fluids and are not rejected by the body

Silicone (Paint)

Compound used in the manufacture of binders that is characterized by outstanding heat resistance, high water repellency, and chemical resistance. A key ingredient in some caulks and sealants, and in the formulation of many effective defoamers for latex paints.

Silicone (Pavement)

A resin, characterized by water-repellent properties, in which the main polymer chain consists of alternating silicon and oxygen atoms, with carbon-containing side groups; silicones may be used in joint sealing compounds, caulking or coating compounds, or admixtures for concrete.

Silicone (Remote Control Cars)

A type of synthetic rubber that is heat-resistant and more durable than standard or natural rubber.

Silicone (Shoes)

A chemical compound, analogous to a hydrocarbon, having a central chain of atoms of silicon, instead of carbon, in the molecule. Rubbers, oils and greases are possible types of silicones, each having special properties of great value in industry. Silicone rubber, when used in certain shoemaking processes, retains its properties when subjected, in its application in a machine, to temperatures up to 300"C. It is stable over a very wide temperature range, down to -90'C. Not to be confused with silicon.

Silicone (Technology)

A polymer in which silicon and oxygen are major components. Silicone is an excellent electrical insulator and conducts heat well.
